HTML5 For Web Designers
HTML5 is the longest HTML specification ever written. It is also the most powerful, and in some ways, the most confusing. What do accessible, content-focused standards-based web designers and front-end developers need to know? And how can we harness the power of HTML5 in today’s browsers? In this brilliant and entertaining user’s guide, Jeremy Keith cuts to the chase, with crisp, clear, practical examples, and his patented twinkle and charm.

Introducing HTML5
We’re not one of the HTML 5 spec writers, and we’re not here to persuade you to use it. Our take is that it’s going to happen, so we need to get acquainted. But we’re going to point out (perhaps rant) about the good parts as well as the bad. It’s as far as possible a practical book, showing you how to use the language but some areas of the spec will be discussed theoretically as they’re not yet implemented anywhere.

I strongly recommend the recently released Hardboiled Web Design by Andy Clarke.
Excellent post! I read Jeremy’s and Mark’s books on the topic of HTML5, and started using the new iteration of HTML in my designs right away, with the help of Modernizr, which btw, I don’t see mentioned anywhere in this article. Being that is so awesome, I think it rightfully deserves its place in this already excellent post. Furthermore, I think it is absolutely essential for everybody concerned with cross-browser experience to have this bookmarked for future reference, when you decide to build that awesome web app/site of yours with HTML5:
The All-In-One Entirely-Not-Alphabetical No-Bullshit Guide to HTML5 Fallbacks (https://github.com/Modernizr/Modernizr/wiki/HTML5-Cross-browser-Polyfills)
Excellent post. I like the way you expose your writing talent! Keep up good work.
Great list of HTML5 resources!
I’d also suggest checking DHTMLX Touch mobile framework for HTML5-based web apps:
http://dhtmlx.com/touch/
The frameworks comes with a visual designer tool and simple code inspector that simplify mobile apps development.
Great and valuable list of resources, thanks!
I released an open source JavaScript library called Heartcode CanvasLoader. With this lightweight tool web developers can add smooth and sexy preloaders to their HTML projects for free. Beside the library I’ve got a creator page which is a visual editor, where the users can customize and download their own preloaders.
Check out the Heartcode CanvasLoader Creator page:
